THE
HISTORY OF ST. JAMES, NEW YORK |
Saint James is a relatively busy place with more than
13 thousand people in an area of about 5 square miles. The town bears
sentient evidence of its heritage and takes good care of historic structures
and institutions. It has a strong religious character and boasts of
quality education for children.
Fine dining is a pleasure in Saint James. Italian,
French and Asian cuisine makes a heady mix with American fare and a
Steakhouse. Mirabelle is considered amongst the best not in Saint James,
but for all of Long Island. The owner has been trained in France and
worked for some of the best restaurants in New York before starting
out on his own with his wife, who is also an authority on gourmet food.
The restaurant is sited in an old farm house. Creative menus with frequent
changes, distinguished wine and impeccable service mark this restaurant.
Cooking classes for enthusiasts, celebrations on important days of French
and American history and catering for events add to the Mirabelle name
and goodwill.
Oscar's is another famous and well loved restaurant
in town. An atmosphere of casual elegance strikes diners right from
entrance. A heartwarming touch is the use of local artist's works to
adorn the walls with paintings. Wine is available with just a small
corkage over the retail price. The menu is exceptional and the service
is attentive.
An engaging feature of the Bella Vita City Grill is
that diners can shape their own appetizers of bread with a variety of
toppings. The entrees are very well plated and represent a Northern
Italy genre of cooking. Guests are well advised to spare room and calories
for some dream dessert.
Education has a key place in the Saint James scheme
of things. The St. Philip-James Elementary School in town has about
400 students in Grades for Pre-Kindergarten to 8. The Knoz School has
about 125 students in Grades 7 to 12. There is a Sylvan Learning Center
in town that trains children for School and provides custom programs
for each client child.
Buildings and homes are well preserved in Saint James
and the tradition extends in to the conventional realty market. The
Deepwells Farm is a 19th century structure in the National Register
of Historic Places. It will open soon for public viewing and tours after
on-going restoration work. The General Store that bears the town's name
is also in the National Register of Historic Places. It has served the
local community for more than 150 years. Saint James has large luxurious
homes with waterfront views for sale. Investors and people of substance
can choose from a range of distinctive classic and modern architectural
styles.
